Personal Warding Tutorial

Picture your energy (spiritual, physical, mental, whatever feels strongest) as a light inside you. Something so bright that nothing could ever dim or extinguish it.

Cup your hands together in front of your stomach. Picture the energy pouring into your hands, a living thing, but pliable and malleable. Breathe deeply and bring your hands out like you’re stretching taffy. Focus on the flow, picture it expanding into a sphere that envelopes your whole body, thin as a soap bubble and stronger than steel. Unbreakable.

Now pour your will into that bubble. Make it a shield, a stone fortress, a wall of flame, whatever you can picture most vividly. Nothing gets through that barrier unless you allow it, NOTHING.

Focus on that image until you can picture it clearly in your head at a moment’s notice, until you can almost feel it on the palms of your hands when you hold them out. Make it as big or as small as you need it to be. Starting small takes less energy and you can gradually learn to expand it to fill an entire room if you need to.

This shield moves with you, bends with you, expands and contracts as needed. It’s armor, but never confining. Practice dropping it and pulling it up at a moment’s notice. That way you’ll be able to protect yourself in a pinch.

You can cleanse yourself and your home with a bit of basil, rosemary, and salt. It’s easily found in the supermarket spice aisle and smells better than sage smoke.

Put a few spoonfuls of basil and rosemary (fresh or dried) in a cloth sachet, and simmer it in a few cups of water for about ten minutes, until there’s a nice strong herbal smell. Remove the sachet, let the water cool, then pour it into a spray bottle or a bowl. Sprinkle it around your home, being sure to get the corners, the windows, and the doors very thoroughly. Say whatever words you feel will clear the air and make the place yours again, or call on whatever spirits or deities you think might help.

Once you’ve cleansed every room, mix the salt with fresh water (or the remnants of the herbal infusion if you wish). Use this mixture to daub or draw protective symbols on the doorframes and windowsills, again whatever speaks to you.

Repeat as often as you feel it is necessary. Be aware: this can be draining. You will feel tired afterward, you might have a headache or feel dizzy. Be sure to eat something and drink plenty of water when you’ve finished, and leave a little something out for any spirits or deities you called on for help.
